«¿Qué es un diácono? ¿No estás en formación para el sacerdocio?»

Sí, y si Dios quiere la ordenación al sacerdocio de Jesucristo será, si Dios quiere, el 29 de junio de 2013, Solemnidad de San Pedro y San Pablo, en Salt Lake City. El Diaconado transitorio es un paso adelante, un paso muy grande, cuando ya prometo la obediencia, la oración, y la castidad que son partes imprescindibles de la vida sacerdotal.

«¿Dónde ejercerás este ministerio? ¿Y después, dónde serás sacerdote?»

Aunque la ordenación será en el Vaticano, seré diacono para la Diócesis de Salt Lake City, donde espero vivir mi vida sacerdotal después de terminar el curso de mi estudios en Roma.

“What is a deacon? Aren’t you in formation for the priesthood?”

Yes, and God willing the ordination to the priesthood of Jesus Christ will be, God willing, June 29, 2013, Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, in Salt Lake City. The transitional diaconate is a step forward, a very big step, when I already promise the obedience, prayer, and chastity which are hallmarks of the priestly life.

“Where will you carry out this ministry? And afterward, where will you be a priest?”

Although the ordination will be at the Vatican, I will be a deacon for the Diocese of Salt Lake City, where I hope to live my priestly life after finishing my studies in Rome.

• Wednesday, October 3: After the General Audience at 10:30, the Holy Father will receive those of my class to be ordained the next day.
• Wednesday, October 3: In the afternoon there will be a prayer vigil at the church Chiesa del Gesù.
• Thursday, October 4: The ordination, followed by a reception at the North American College.
• Thursday, October 4: Vespers at the basilica of Saint Pancras at 7 p.m., followed by a celebratory meal at the restaurant Scarpone.
• Friday, October 5: The first Mass as a deacon, at 9 a.m., in the chapel of San Carolo of the church of Chiesa Nuova (Santa Maria in Vallicella).

Para llegar a la Basílica Vaticana desde el aeropuerto de Fiumicino: tome qualquier tren menos el Leonardo Express hasta Trastevere. Allí, haga un trasbordo con un tren llendo a Roma-San Pietro (o andén 6 o 2). Desde la estación se va bajando por la calle.

Para llegar a la oficina Scavi: entre en la Ciudad del Vaticano desde la puerta de hierro afuera del colonado de la plaza de San Pedro saliendo de la plaza por la izquierda (sur); los Guardias Suizas y los Gendarmes Vaticana le conducirán al oficio del Scavi.

INFORMACIÓN IMPORTANTE ACERCA DE LOS SCAVI

Para llegar al Gesù desde la Basilica Vaticana: tome el autobús o 64 o 40 hacia Termini; baje en Largo Argentina.

Para llegar a San Pancrazio desde la Basílica Vaticana: tome el autobús 870 desde el North American College hacia Trullo; baje en frente de la Iglesia.

Para ir desde Scarpone a la Basílica Vaticana: andando, tira a la derecha hacia la via Aurelia Antica. Donde crucen las calles, tira a la izquierda (un ángulo de 40º), y inmediatamente tira a la derecha en la via Della Fornaci. Baje hasta el final.

Para llegar a la Basílica de Santa María la Mayor desde la Basílica Vaticana: tome el autobús o 64 o 40 hacia Termini haciendo trasbordo en Largo Argentina con el 70 hacia Giolitti; baje en frente de la Basílica.

How to get places using public transportation
(you can always take a taxi or ncc)

To get to the Vatican Basilica from Fiumicino airport: take any train except the Leonardo Express to Trastevere. There, change to a train going to Roma-San Pietro (either platform 6 or 2). From the station, just walk down the hill.

To get to the Scavi office: enter Vatican City from the iron gate outside the collonade of St. Peter's Square on the left (south); the Swiss Guard and Vatican Gendarmerie will direct you to the Scavi office.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCAVI

To get to the Gesù from near the Vatican Basilica: take bus 64 or 40 toward Termini; get off at Largo Argentina.

To get to San Pancrazio from near the Vatican Basilica: Take bus 870 from in front of the North American College toward Trullo; get off in front of the Church.

To get from Scarpone to the Vatican Basilica: walk right toward the via Aurelia Antica. At the fork, go left (a 40º angle), then immediately right down the via Delle Fornaci. Walk until the end.

To get to the Basilica of St. Mary Major from near the Vatican Basilica: take bus 64 or 40 toward Termini to Largo Argentina and change to 70 toward Giolitti; get off at the Basilica.

Oh Jesús, Pontífice Eterno, Buen Pastor, Fuente de vida, que por singular generosidad de tu dulcísimo Corazón nos has dado nuestros sacerdotes para que podamos cumplir plenamente los designios de santificación que tu gracia inspira en nuestras almas; te suplicamos: ven y ayúdalos con tu asistencia misericordiosa.

Sé en ellos, oh Jesús, fe viva en sus obras, esperanza inquebrantable en las pruebas, caridad ardiente en sus propósitos. Que tu palabra, rayo de la eterna Sabiduría, sea, por la constante meditación, el alimento diario de su vida interior. O Jesus, Eternal High Priest, Good Shepherd, Font of life, Who by a special favor of Thy most tender Heart hast given to us our Priests, in order to accomplish in us those holy ideals with which Thy grace inspires our hearts, let Thy mercy, we beseech Thee, come to the aid of our Priests.

Grant them, O Jesus, lively faith in their works, unshakable hope in their trials and fervent charity in their intentions. May Thy word, radiant with eternal wisdom, become through continual meditation the never failing nourishment of their interior life; may the examples of Thy life and Passion be renewed in their conduct and sufferings, for our instruction and as a light and consolation in our sorrows.
